Michel Veuthey a été au service du Comité International de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) pendant 33 ans, de 1967 à 2000. Il y occupa les postes suivants : Membre de la Division juridique pendant les travaux préparatoires et les sessions de la Conférence Diplomatique sur la Réaffirmation et le Développement du Droit International Humanitaire applicable dans les Conflits Armés (1974-1977), Chef de la Division des Organisations Internationales, Délégué Général pour l’Europe et l’Amérique du Nord, Assistant du Président du CICR, Chef de Délégation régionale pour l’Afrique Australe et l’Océan Indien (basé à Pretoria) et Conseiller juridique pour le cinquantième anniversaire des Conventions de Genève. Il a aussi effectué plusieurs missions opérationnelles de courte durée sur le terrain en Afrique, en Europe, en Asie et au Moyen Orient.
Michel Veuthey est docteur en droit de l’Université de Genève (1976). Il a donné de nombreuses conférences et cours sur le droit international humanitaire et est l’auteur d’un ouvrage ainsi que près de cinquante articles sur le droit et l’action humanitaires. Il enseigne actuellement le droit international public à l’Université de Webster à Genève.
